Goodbye to our Rachel

Recently everyone at Riversway said a fond farewell as a popular member of staff left for pastures new.

Rachel, who has been an important part of our lifestyle team for several years and a firm favourite of both staff and residents, will be missed but of course we all wish her the best for the future.

We presented her with gifts including a bunch of flowers, and there was a queue outside one of our lounges to give her a goodbye hug.

Sarah’s night at the National Care Awards

Staff and residents had their fingers crossed for success recently, as Riversway staff member Sarah Notton attended the National Care Awards.

Sarah was just one of four nurses in the running for the care registered nurse award at the ceremony, which is in its 17th year and recognises the best people working in the care sector across the country.

A prestigious gala dinner was held at the Hilton London Metropole on November 27, hosted by actor and comedian Hugh Dennis, before the awards were handed out.

Although Sarah wasn’t successful on the night, it’s a fantastic achievement to be shortlisted in the first place and she faced tough competition throughout the initial interview stages.

Steve Newton, director of quality and compliance for the Springhill Group, attended the ceremony with Sarah, and said: “Sarah did exceptionally well to be selected as one of the top registered nurses in the country. Having worked at Riversway for 16 years, she is one of the most popular members of our team within the home.

“We had a great night at the awards and everyone at Riversway, and Springhill Care, are extremely proud of Sarah’s achievements.”

Goodbye and good luck Terry

Riversway staff and residents have bid farewell and good luck to a popular member of the team, as our maintenance manager Terry Coggins says goodbye.

Terry has worked at the home for 18 years, being on call seven days a week and has been a familiar and friendly face to everyone.

A special leaving party was thrown, with Springhill Group chairman Ken Nolan on hand to present Terry with some gifts to thank him for his time at Riversway, including a ticket for a trip on the Orient Express, a photo album full of memories from over the years, a piece of Bristol Blue Glass, a DVD slide show and some chocolate tools.

It was good to get together with Terry one last time over some tea and cake, to send him on his way.

Good luck Terry, you’ll be missed.

Bristol marathon fun

More than 7,500 runners passed by Riversway Nursing Home recently, and our residents Betty and Olive were there to greet them – including our very own nurse Julian.

The runners were taking part in the Bristol marathon, and Riversway was on the route, so Betty and Olive waited at the end of our drive to give ‘high-fives’ to many of those who passed.

Among the runners was Julian, who finished the marathon in a time of 4hours 5mins and 11sec.

Thank you to Betty and Olive for their tireless support, and well done to Julian for his incredible effort in completing the run.

Sarah is a National Care Awards finalist

Celebrations are in order at Riversway Nursing Home, as we have received the great news we have been shortlisted in one of the categories at the National Care Awards.

Staff member Sarah Notton was nominated for the care registered nurse award. Sarah has worked at Riversway for 16 years, and is one of the most popular members of staff in the home.

The National Care Awards, which is in its 17th year, recognises the best people working in the care sector across the country.

The next stage for Sarah is an interview, ahead of a prestigious awards ceremony on November 27 at the Hilton London Metropole, hosted by television and radio star Hugh Dennis.

It’s a fantastic achievement to just be shortlisted, so good luck Sarah from all at Riversway.
