This week is Dementia Awareness Week, and we have lots going on around the home as usual, including a trip out to the Trinity Centre in Bristol to attend a dance celebration for people with dementia.
At Riversway Care Home, we have a person-centred approach to care, with specialist services and facilities that are designed to support those whose lives are affected by dementia. We have a dedicated bedroom suite with trained support staff to care for residents with the condition.
There’s also a hub to share knowledge and expertise in dementia care, designed to support friends and family of residents.
Residents can enjoy the benefits of a whole range of activities designed to stimulate positive memories, such as our arts and craft afternoons, days out, parties, musical therapy and holistic treatments.
*Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases such as Alzheimer’s or a series of strokes. Symptoms may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, speech and problem-solving. There are currently 850,000 people with dementia in the UK, a figure which is expected to rise to more than a million by the year 2021.
