On the trail in Bristol

Bristol is a lively city and there is always something for our residents to enjoy, often right on the doorstep.

It was no different recently when a group made their way around part of the Gromit Unleashed arts trail.

This charity arts exhibition is led by Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal, the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity, and Aardman Animations, and has seen giant sculptures of Gromit decorated by artists and placed around the city.

Once finished, the sculptures will be auctioned off to raised funds, so it was great to get out and see these marvellous attractions for ourselves while we still can.

Our staff took a group of four residents out to see parts of the trail, and enjoyed a drink on the way.

All smiles for sun and BBQ

MattResidents, family and friends enjoyed a carefree afternoon in the sunshine at Riversway’s BBQ last week.

Sun hats and parasols were the order of the day as the sun shone and the BBQ food was enjoyed in the garden area.

The afternoon was capped by entertainment from Trevor who is a regular entertainer-singer at Riversway, who received a big Riversway round of applause.

The residents and guests swapped stories of times past, and everyone agreed it was one of the best BBQs yet. Roll on the next one!

Wedding joy for Sarah

At Riversway we love a chance to hold a party, so we were delighted when Sarah Newton, a member of our nursing staff, announced she was to tie the knot.

To celebrate, staff and residents, held a pre-wedding party in Riversway’s dining room with a buffet and plenty of colourful decorations.

Sarah (pictured) is a popular part of the team and always has a smile on her face, and it was a pleasure to be able to make a fuss of her for a change.

She is due to be married later this month, and everyone at Riversway wishes her and her husband-to-be all the best.

Racing for Life

Staff here at Riversway are always keen to support the local community and the weekend’s Race for Life was a great opportunity.

Georgina, Karen and Sally of Riversway Care Home (pictured), took part in the race, held on The Downs on Sunday.

Joining the trio were family members – Georgina’s daughter Tash, and Sally’s sister Lynne and 82-year old mum Olive. Incredibly, this year’s event was the fifth year that Olive has completed the course.

We would all like to congratulate the team for this tremendous effort, raising money for a great cause in the blazing heat.

Open day showcases care at Riversway

Members of the public got to see first-hand the high quality care at Riversway recently when we opened our doors as part of a national initiative.

The National Care Home Open Day programme was designed to showcase the work that goes on at homes across the UK, and Riversway opened its doors to the public.

Taking advantage of the good weather, staff and residents enjoyed plenty of activities both inside and out, with a special appearance from our own Elvis Presley tribute, Jan Kluganost (pictured).

Refreshments, fancy dress, balloons and entertainment were on the cards for visitors and residents, who gathered under a marquee to enjoy the sunshine.

At Riversway we are very proud of the work we do and this was a perfect chance to showcase our staff and residents to members of the public who might not get the opportunity to see it otherwise.
